The old adage: “Watch yuh words!” requires a revival in these times, when persons are loose with their speech and some cannot express themselves or interpret language effectively. Unfortunately, this is true of ‘leaders’ across all spheres.
As we all reflect on the concept of ‘independence’ and what it means in its truest sense – for our nation, and ourselves – three words should be placed squarely in focus. Our national watchwords – ‘Discipline, Production & Tolerance’, have become satirical quips and often taken for granted, or viewed as impossibilities, as many claim our culture is really one of bacchanal, laziness and division. I rebuke that sentiment.
Perhaps there is a growing minority that don’t ‘watch their words’ or even know our ‘watchwords’, but I believe that the majority of us do! From the farmer toiling under the hottest days’ sun, to the white collar mover & shaker striving to create jobs, to the nurse juggling limited hospital beds, to the student burning the midnight oil – all of us know what can result from acting & thinking they way our watchwords demand of us. Are you prepared to watch our words?
